Eating Disorders

Cynthia will help you replace your eating disorder with healthy skills and a deeper understanding of how to live your life in a way that reflects your own unique individuality.

“Everyone wants to feel good about themselves. An eating disorder is so much more than an obsession with food. I hope to help you find your way back to a healthier and happier you.” – Cynthia Hutchins

People may experience:

  • Disordered eating
  • Body image distortion
  • Excessive weight loss/gain
  • Obsessional thoughts about food

Cynthia uses the treatment team approach, using referrals to psychiatry, a dietician, and a family therapist. Eating disorders are complex disorders and the treatment needs to be multi-faceted.

Cynthia uses the well-established, highly effective treatment called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In these types of therapy you will be actively involved in your own recovery, have a sense of regaining control, and learn skills that are useful in coping with your life. Together, you and Cynthia will learn skills during your therapy sessions that you must then practice outside of session.

Treatment Team Approach

You may be referred to a physician to evaluate the helpfulness of medication in your treatment, a family therapist if family obstacles lie in your path, or a dietician who will be central in your recovery.
